The Parish Council

The administrative body of the parish, consists of the parish priests (non-voting) and 12 elected lay members who serve three-year staggered terms (i.e., only four are elected each December). They are spiritually and legally responsible for the proper operation of the parish, and are accountable to the Metropolitan. Their purpose is to cooperate in administering the entire life of the parish. The council conducts regular monthly meetings, special meetings as needed, general assemblies of the entire parish, and an annual leadership retreat.

Stewardship

The committee inspires, educates and enables the members of the parish to return a fair portion of God’s blessings of time, talents and financial resources back to the Church so that the work of Christ through St. Mary’s may continue and grow.  They set the Stewardship schedule and drive each year, prepare literature and commitment cards, track responses and follow up.  In line with the Biblical principle of proportional giving, all members are urged to contribute a minimum of 2% of their gross income, or the equivalent of one hour’s wage per week, to the Church.

St. Mary's Foundation

Established in 1978, this is a long-term endowment fund whose purpose is to provide fiscal stability and security to the parish.  The fund is invested, by commonly accepted principles, in both fixed income and equity securities.  Anyone can contribute to the foundation through extraordinary charitable giving, including bequests and legacies, as well as lifetime gifts and memorial contributions.  A committee, called the Foundation Fund Board, oversees the investment of all assets.

Real Estate

This committee oversees the management of the parish’s commercial real estate:  property at Hennepin Avenue (in the Uptown area of south Minneapolis), and the land lease of the Alaska Fur Company in Bloomington.

Financial Affairs

Analyzes the entire financial situation of the parish—operating budget, endowment fund, dedicated funds, real estate assets, capital campaign—and then advises and assists the Parish Council.

Buildings and Grounds

Oversees day-to-day needs of the physical plant, and recommends and implements needed improvements and repair.
